Kasmin Welcomes New Director: Tianyue Jiang

Kasmin is pleased to announce that Tianyue Jiang has joined the gallery as Director in September 2018.

As well as spearheading exhibitions in each of Kasmin’s four New York gallery spaces, and on the gallery’s forthcoming rooftop sculpture garden, Jiang will lead the Kasmin’s strategic development in Asia. The appointment comes as the gallery prepares to participate in its first edition of the art fair Art021 in Shanghai in November. Paul Kasmin says, “It is wonderful to welcome someone of Tianyue’s immense experience to the gallery to lead our ambitions both in Asia and at home here in New York. Her specialized knowledge of the region will be of tremendous importance as we continue to develop our client base and introduce more Asian artists to the gallery programme.”

Jiang comes from Christie’s, where she worked for four years leading the New York office as Vice President, Specialist, in the Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art Department. During her time at Christie’s, Jiang was integral in sourcing important consignments for Hong Kong, Shanghai and New York auctions, playing a key role in private sales and exhibition, as well as advising a core group of clients in various categories. She established the department’s online auction and strengthened the department’s profile in worldwide media.

Jiang says, "I have always admired Paul Kasmin's excellent artists and estates representation and rigorous curatorial approach. I am excited to join the team and to bring new artist names to the roster, especially those pertaining to Asia. I also hope to initiate more collaborative efforts and strategic partnerships to introduce the gallery to a wider Asian audience."

Born in China and educated in the United States, Jiang has a diverse international background. She holds a bachelor degree from Peking University and M.A. in the History of Art from Williams College in Massachusetts. She also completed the Certificate in Appraisal Studies in Fine and Decorative Arts from New York University and participated in the prestigious Gwangju Biennale International CuratorialProgram. Prior to her time at Christie’s, Jiang was an art consultant, dealer, appraiser and historian specializing in Asian art.

Founded in SoHo in 1989, Paul Kasmin Gallery cultivates a program in which historic figures of Post-War and Modernism are in meaningful dialogue with the evolving practice of both emerging and established contemporary artists. With three spaces in Chelsea, New York, the gallery mounts ambitious concurrent exhibitions alongside participation in major art fairs worldwide. In October 2018, the gallery will open its newest and largest space at 509 West 27th Street, expanding the gallery’s footprint and providing a platform to build upon our curatorial mission. The new building will also feature a planted roof purposefully designed for exhibiting monumental sculptures, which parallels the gallery’s well-known engagement in international public art projects.
