For Frieze Diálogos, Kasmin and PEANA present work by Tezontle, an artist duo comprised of Carlos H. Matos and Lucas Cantú. The presentation includes a new body of work created during the artists' residency at Casa Wabi, located on the idyllic coast of Oaxaca, Mexico.
Tezontle identifies with Mexico’s prehispanic heritage and the abstract work of the Mexican modernists of the mid-20th Century. The artists work by curating found objects with self made ones in a process of generating innovative, formal, and material narratives. At Casa Wabi, the artists experimented with earth and minerals sourced directly from the region, resulting in a collection of sculptures that exude luminous tones of ochre and rust due to the high iron content found in the local soil.
